Why we love it
Achensee changes the mood of a mountain ride. Blue water, steep mountain sides and the long shape of the lake bring a fresh sense of space to the journey. It is a setting that asks you to slow your thoughts, even while the road keeps moving beneath the bike.
The surrounding mountains give the water its scale. Karwendel and Rofan frame the lake, their wooded slopes and rocky heights creating a strong contrast with the changing blues below. The appeal comes from that meeting of mountain and water, and from the way a familiar-looking lakeside road suddenly feels unmistakably Alpine.
The approach above the Inn Valley adds another perspective. Around the Kanzelkehre, the wider valley landscape becomes part of the experience, giving the road a character that reaches beyond the lakeshore alone.
We value Achensee for the variety it brings to a riding journey. After concentrated mountain turns, a lake gives the eye something different to explore and the day another mood to remember. Take a proper pause, enjoy the colour of the water and give the mountains time to make their impression. Some of the best Alpine moments begin when the bike is parked.
