Why we love it
Nockalmstraße is a road that invites you to settle into a rhythm. The bends fold into the rounded slopes of the Nockberge, carrying you through woodland and open pasture with a fresh view beyond the next rise. There is a real pleasure in following a road that seems to belong so naturally to its landscape.
The riding has its own gentle momentum. You climb, descend and climb again, with the shape of the hills setting the pace. Give the corners your attention, let the bike settle between them, and enjoy how the road keeps bringing the mountains back into view.
Up high, the sense of space becomes the highlight. Eisentalhöhe and Schiestlscharte each bring you above 2,000 metres, where broad pastures stretch towards rounded summits and the road can be traced across the folds of the hills. Stop, take off your helmet and give those views a little time.
For Alpine Roads, Nockalmstraße earns its place through the way the whole ride comes together: flowing bends, changing woodland and broad mountain scenery. It rewards a measured pace and an eye for the landscape. This is a Carinthian road to enjoy for every turn, every climb and every pause along the way.
The ride
The 34 km Nockalmstraße links Innerkrems and Ebene Reichenau through 52 named bends. Its succession of climbs, descents and changing views gives the road a flowing character. Eisentalhöhe and Schiestlscharte provide two high points above 2,000 metres, with mountain scenery unfolding throughout the ride.
The scenery
Rounded Nockberge summits, open Alpine pastures and stands of larch and stone pine give this road its distinctive landscape. The views widen as you climb, with Eisentalhöhe and Schiestlscharte offering space to stop and take in the surrounding mountains.
Alpine Roads tip
Make time for a proper viewpoint stop at Eisentalhöhe or Schiestlscharte. A clear-weather day lets you enjoy the shape and scale of the Nockberge. Before setting out, check the operator’s current road information and motorcycle access hours.
Rider character
Flowing and scenic, with an inviting sequence of bends and a landscape that rewards a measured pace. A ride to enjoy for its rhythm as much as its views.
