Why we love it
Cima Sappada brings a different pleasure to an Alpine ride. The road reaches a mountain village with a strong identity of its own, where traditional houses and the surrounding landscape invite you to ease the pace and look around. It is a setting to enjoy as part of the journey, with time to appreciate the place itself.
Set around 1,290 metres above sea level, Cima Sappada stands above the wider Sappada valley. Meadows, wooded slopes and the mountain backdrop give the approach a distinctive feel. The riding becomes part of a larger experience: moving between valleys, watching the scenery change and discovering a village that feels closely connected to its surroundings.
The details make the stop memorable. Timber buildings, the church of Sant’Osvaldo and the historic village layout give Cima Sappada an individual character. Park considerately and a short wander offers another perspective on the place you have just ridden through.
We love including roads that introduce riders to the life of the mountains as well as their scale. Cima Sappada does that beautifully, combining a scenic mountain-road setting with a village worth noticing. Give it a little attention and it adds another texture to your Alpine journey.
The ride
A scenic mountain-road setting around the village of Cima Sappada, on the connection between Sappada and the Forni Avoltri side of the mountains. The appeal is the journey through the landscape and the character of the village itself.
The scenery
An elevated village setting above the Sappada valley, with grassy ground, wooded slopes and surrounding mountains. Traditional timber buildings and the church of Sant’Osvaldo bring a distinctive human scale to the scenery.
Alpine Roads tip
Make time to notice the village. Park considerately in a permitted place and explore the historic streets on foot, then return your attention to the road when riding on.
