Why we love it
Iselsberg brings the mountains into view in a way that makes you want to linger. Above the Lienz basin, the surrounding landscape opens towards the rock formations of the Lienz Dolomites, while green slopes and scattered buildings give the crossing a lived-in Alpine character.
The road is part of the pleasure. Its bends lift you out of the valley landscape and carry you towards the saddle between East Tyrol and Carinthia. Ride smoothly, enjoy the changing perspective and let the climb develop its own rhythm. There is real satisfaction in travelling through this landscape on a road that follows the shape of the mountains.
The Schober and Kreuzeck mountain groups frame the wider area, with the Möll Valley adding another setting to the crossing. Meadows and woodland give the foreground texture; the higher mountains provide the scale. It is an inviting combination for anyone who enjoys scenery as much as cornering.
We love Iselsberg for the sense of space it brings to a mountain journey. Leave room for a permitted viewpoint stop, take in the surrounding peaks, and let the scenery become part of the memory of the ride. This is a crossing to enjoy for its setting, its curves and the pleasure of moving between two Austrian Alpine regions.
